CAPS (C) 1001 software development
============================================================================
Newsflash is very proud to inform you about this first Dutch presentation
package for the Amiga. 1001-software known for their demos on the good
old 64 (and cardcruncher) and Skate of Art on the Amiga have produced
a complete package for use with presentations.
The facts:
CAPS ( Computer Aided Presentation System ) is a professional presentation
package for the Amiga computer. It allows you to remotecontrol a slideshow
with a second computer. The slideshow may consist of pictures, animations
and textscreens. As you will see there is a wide variety of possibilities.
With a second computer one is able to log-in at the Amiga and:
* Update the running show
* Upload pictures/backgrounds/animations and textpages
* Create/delete/copy/modify textpages
* Modify incoming & outgoing effect for each page
* Send newsflashes, stopping the running show for a moment
* Modify speed of animations and number of loops
* Give pages a starting & ending time to be part of the show
* Give pages a starting & ending date to be part of the show
Possible CAPS applications are :
* TV newspapers
* Stand alone information systems
* Inhouse communication systems for hotels, officebuildings,
police offices, supermarkets, jobcenters, banks, shops,
showrooms, exhibitions, airports, travel agencies, cinemas,
theatres,
disco's, universities, schools etc.
* Local cable text
* Local television
* Business graphics
* Corporate presentations
* Point-of-purchase displays
* Sales & training presentations
TV NEWSPAPERS
-------------
Example : a local TV-newspaper using CAPS in The Hague, Holland
(200.000 homes) works as follows :
An Amiga (with harddisk and modem) is connected to the TV cable network.
The Amiga can only be reached by telephone line !
5 reporters with computers who are able to call the Amiga, type their
passwords and put news in the TV-newspaper. While they are connected to
the Amiga and editing their newspages, the watchers at home are not visualy
disturbed, the show goes on. If a reporter is only allowed to take care
of the sportpages, he will not be able to change the rest of the pages
since they are related to his password.
INHOUSE COMMUNICATION
---------------------
In this case the Amiga is connected to a network of TV screens in a
building and to a terminal or PC.
The show consists of:
* Photo's of products
* Animations of the company's logo
* Welcome texts to visitors
* Messages to the staff.
etc.
Pages with text can be displayed every day at the same time for example
"Good morning" at 9:00 every morning. If visistors are expected to show up
around 4:00 PM you are able to type a welcome text in the morning or even
weeks before and let it be displayed on screen from 3:45 till 4:15.
Important news can be edited and displayed in a couple of seconds
temporarily stopping the running show. Type your text, choose a background
and a displaying time (e.g 10 minutes).
HOTELS
------
This works more or less as the inhouse communication example. Here the
Amiga is connected to the TV network in the rooms of the hotel. The show
can consist of :
* Messages from hotel to guests
* Advertisements from shops nearby the hotel
* Menu-of-the-day
* Info about trips
* Traffic information
etc.
BANKS
-----
Display the currencies on TV screens in the building. Every moment of the
day they can easily be changed with a PC. This will work even faster than
the way banks are doing it now ( blackboards or pin-down digits).
EXHIBITIONS
-----------
On exhibitions and fairs CAPS is a powerful way to show the visitors what
products you have. If a product is not available the moment the exhibition
starts, you delete it from the CAPS show. Try that with a videotape ! Prices
on the screens can be changed whenever you want. 4 CAPS towers on the
Commodore booth at this year's Efficiency Fair in Amsterdam certainly
looked professional. It consisted of animations, photo's of the new
Commodore models and a lot of information screens about what to find where
on the booth.
etc.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT CAPS
--------------------------------
CAPS consists of 2 programs running simultaneously on an Amiga with at
least 1Mb & 20MB harddisk. The first program "Show" displays
pictures, textscreens and animations. The second program also running on
the show Amiga called "Texteditor" takes care of the communication with an
external computer and tells "Show" what to display. This second computer
(Amiga, PC, Mac, ST or whatever) is needed to control the running show
'realtime' without visualy disturbing the watcher. It only needs a
terminalprogram like DIGA! (for Amiga) or Procomm (for PC). The connection
may either be a wire or a telephone line with two modems. If an Amiga is
used as external computer one is also able to create and upload new
graphics to the show Amiga. A PC using Dpaint is also able to upload IFF
screens. "Show" supports all Amiga IFF-graphic modes, creates textscreens
on a 16 or 8 color hires background and runs ANIM verticalbyte compressed
animations (e.g. DpaintIII) that may have a different palette for each
frame. CAPS supports colorfonts and uploads new graphics via telephone
line using the X- or Y-modem protocol. The software is protected with a
dongle.
